Spinal Stenosis
What Causes Spinal Stenosis?
Aging and age-related changes in the spine happen over a period.
- Arthritis of the spine
- Injury
- Fracture
- Bone disease
- Any defect or growth in the spine from birth
- Herniated disc
- Tumors
How is Spinal Stenosis Diagnosed?
We thoroughly examine the patient’s medical history, signs or symptoms, and family history. Some of the crucial pointers essential for the diagnosis are when the signs started, what activities triggered it, and if there is any pattern that makes it worse or better. During physical examination, the patient will be asked to move around, bend forward, and if that helps alleviate the pain. Even a neurological exam is performed to check reflexes, balance, muscle strength, nerve sensation, and more. Some of the following tests may be used to diagnose spinal stenosis:
- X-rays
- CT scan
- MRI scan
- Electromyography
- Blood test
These tests are in an appropriate diagnosis, the first step in the recovery process. Learn more about how our pain management techniques can help patients find relief by reaching out to Advanced Pain Consultants, PA at (919) 800-0850.
