Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection
Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection
What are the Benefits of Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection?
Cervical epidural steroid injections can be used to treat pain in the neck, back, shoulders, and arms. Some of the benefits include:
- Treating pain from the origin
- Improving your ability to perform daily activities
- Reducing the need for invasive procedures
- Better quality of life
Many conditions, such as cervical radiculitis, cervical bulging discs, and cervical spinal stenosis, could cause it. Patients suffering from symptoms of sciatica, nerve root compression, herniated discs, and spinal inflammation may benefit from cervical epidural steroid injections.
How Does Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection Work?
Our healthcare practitioners ensure that the patient is thoroughly assessed based on medical history, family history, signs, or symptoms, etc. It is an outpatient procedure in which the patient must lie facing downward. Then, the patient is sterilized and numbed with an anesthetic. We use fluoroscopy (live X-ray) to carefully insert and guide the needle to the affected nerve. With the help of contrast dye, the targeted area is confirmed, and the epidural steroid injection is delivered, after which the needle is removed.
The focus is to target the irritated nerve, and most patients can find relief within 3-5 days after the procedure, while some may feel better even sooner.
